MATCH PREVIEW | Rhinos and Valkyrie kick off Super 4s campaign this Saturday

After seven gruelling rounds of action, the Betfred Women's Super League transitions into the Super 4s format as Leeds Rhinos and York Valkyrie meet in the opening game at AMT Headingley this Saturday, kick off 2pm.

Both Leeds and York finished in the top four of the table alongside St Helens and Wigan Warriors, and now the quartet will face each other both home and away to decide who lifts the League Leaders' Shield. With semi-final spots on the line too, wins throughout the next two months are important for each team as they vie for home advantage ahead of the Grand Final later in the year.

Here's your match preview:

Opposition

Whilst 2026 has been a transition year for the Valkyrie, Leon Pryce's side have remained competitive over the last two months to keep themselves in the fight for a Grand Final return after missing out in 2025.

In the wake of Lindsay Anfield's departure, the 2023 and 2024 Women's Super League champions have maintained most of the squad that has proved vital in the club's recent success, as well as promoted its talents from within the Valkyries' Academy ranks. In just the Super League competition, York's losses have only come to the sides above them in Wigan, Leeds and Saints as they confidently saw off the challenges of Huddersfield, Leigh, Featherstone and Barrow all by 40-point margins to ensure they qualified for a sixth successive Play Off finish. After struggling with just two combined wins since joining the top tier of the Women's competition in 2018, the club's growth is a far cry from where it started as Pryce leads them into a new chapter.

With talismanic full back Tara-Jane Stanley still sidelined through injury, the likes of Sade Rihari, Sinead Peach, Tamzin Renouf and Jas Bell have been forced to raise their performances alongside Izzy Brennan, Brooke Henderson, Lisa Parker and Ruby Ellis who have all broken through the Under-19s ranks to be handed their senior debuts. Half back Ellie Williamson has enjoyed a career year so far with six tries and 68 total points, whilst winger Eboni Partington and Canadian internationals Megan Paukulis and Petra Woods follow closely behind on five each.

Experienced Parramatta Eel Monique Donovan has transitioned into the full back role in recent weeks to connect the York halves out wide, plus the introduction of Adaoha Akwiwu - formerly of Leeds - has four tries in as many games, and former Leigh hooker Katie Howard has also slotted into the Knights' system alongside hookers Sinead Peach and Izzy Bibby.

The Super 4s fixture list sees the Valkyrie travel to Leeds and Wigan first up before returning to home soil to take on the Rhinos in a double header between both club's Men's and Women's sides. Back to back games against Saints follow before a tough closing fixture against Wigan at home.
